OK, what can I do with:

a blood-soaked electric fan a severed hand a massive pile of band-aid wrappers a bag of swedish fish a painting a fire extinguisher a pigeon a ball-peen hammer a frame a photograph a roll of tape a portrait the left half of a coupon a steel key a bottle of aspirin a towel a pillow… Continue reading OK, what can I do with:

IF Comp 06 is on!

Grab it at ifcomp.org. And leave your BT client going while you play. By my count there are 44 games this year, and exactly half of them are Z-code games. The rest seem to be more split than usual between the other gaming systems, with TADS losing its 2nd place a bit. 5 of the… Continue reading IF Comp 06 is on!

Brain Age

The Brain Age tests are fun. I do well at the sudoku. However, the Stroop test (say the colour of the word, not the word) has problems with voice recognition on “blue”. It’s a bit frustrating! But every day my brain is getting better. Today I unlocked the Head Count game… count the number of… Continue reading Brain Age

Interactive Fiction – I7 on Linux

Well, there is now a front end to Inform 7 on Linux, using Haskell and GTK. The compilers are still Windows exes so must be run with Wine. For now. One would think it pretty straightforward to recompile a command line app though.

But I did come home with plenty of free stuff thanks to chatting up the booth babes and being in the right places at… Continue reading E3 roundup

The Pile

I’m making an attempt to get through all the games I have which for one reason or another I haven’t completed, or in many cases have not played for more than an hour, and in some cases have not played at all. Some of the games (not even all, it goes farther back) in this… Continue reading The Pile

BSOL

I am currently doing work on PS3, and our renderer by default colours the screen blue. So when the game starts up without crashing, before any data is loaded and displayed, we at least get what I like to refer to as the “Blue Screen of Life”.

Go

Friday night I played my first game of Go. It’s the kind of game where somebody just a little better than you can handily beat you, and my friend at work is a lot better than “absolute beginner”. His highest rating has been 3 kyu, which I think is saying something (beginners start at 30… Continue reading Go
